great place for delicious drinks and a nice bite to eat
Very neat and accessible place. They provide large portions and for reasonable rates. I liked the meals a lot and the staff members were very personal and chatty. Will definitely recommend this restaurant.
This restaurant is just as good for brunch and for dinner. For brunch, they have a Mimosa with a different twist that I recommend. They also have a dish called Dirty Rice that is unique as a brunch offering. The ambiance is cozy and service is good. I also enjoy the fact that they rotate the artwork. For dinner, they offer some great raw seafood selections (some offered for brunch too!) I'll keep coming back!
Lovely vibe, great decor, food good for brunch but not the most exciting options. Looking forward to coming back for happy hour
Excellent bartender, we had the most amazing cocktails on Thanksgiving night, a good dinner of traditional choices and we were able to stay late to celebrate
The food is amazing, staff is so so friendly, the ambiance is beautiful!
Love this place. Great happy hour
Oysters were fabulous and fresh, surroundings quaint and our host/ bartender was tremendous will be back again
A small bar in Astoria with a "french" atmosphere. Tags: cocktails and oysters. Beer is only $6
Fantastic service, and the atmosphere was nice, like a European cafe. The food was good, but not great. The quality was ok...what you expect. The portions were on the small side for the price, atmosphere and location. The saffron seafood risotto was full of flavor - I recommend this dish. The happy hour oysters were good as well.
Mar’s has become one of my favorite places for brunch in Astoria. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable, food is top-notch and absolutely delicious. Setting is rustic, unpretentious and imaginative so you’ll always have something to gaze at. Also, it’s the only place I know south of Canada where I can get a decent plate of poutine.
Mar's is one of my favorite places for brunch in astoria. Its an unassuming little spot on a quiet street, however the food is always on point. The bacon done perfect, and the dirty rice is one of my person faves. None of my brunch guests were ever disappointed.
I quite enjoyed this place. Staff was very courteous, much more than I would've expected. We got brunch here and I went for their dirty rice, which was very well cooked, with great flavor and overall even looked very nice presentation-wise. Their coffee was very "deep", dark without being bitter at all, it took quite a bit of creamer to get it up to the shade I like, but it tasted excellent. I'd definitely come back here.
A beautiful interior. Always warm people, always great cocktails. Definitely on my best of Astoria list. They belong on a best of NYC list but I'm glad they're not because it's also rarely packed.
Great finding in Astoria, NY. Had a great time with my brother. Small cozy warm place. Had an early dinner on a Sunday. Great cocktails. Great food. Great service. You feel like you've walked into another place and time. Highly recommended
The food was awesome.. As always.. this time they took it a step further. I got there in between brunch and dinner.. The chef kept the kitchen open to feed us.. That's top shelf in my book.
Went here during the happy hour for drinks, oysters and a dinner entree as well.Oysters were delicious and well shucked.Drinks were alright, the sign outside says cocktails $9 during happy hour so I assumed all cocktail drinks were $9 like most places but it only is $9 for their happy hour cocktails which I must have not heard our waiter mention. The entrees are the reason for the 3 stars. The food was just not good. We both ordered 2 separate dishes of mussels and both were not good tasting at all. I wish their seafood was as good as their oysters because I would come back all the time. However, I would only suggest this place for its happy hour.
As of yesterday, Mar's was shut down by the Health Department. Future customers (if the restaurant reopens) should know as I m sure the management will try to hide this information.
We visited Sunday night around 830 for the all day $2 oysters. Ordered a dozen east coast, cocktails, fries and shrimp cocktail. Everything was amazing, great fries, fresh oysters. The drinks were especially good and well made. Is we lived here, this would be a go-to spot. Also several gluten free options on the menu as apparently the owner doesn't eat gluten either.
Seafood could have been a tad fresher, but the staff was very helpful and the menu extensive.
It's a cool, breezy vibe- nothing spectacular. Space is cozy. Plates are small. Bartenders are fun.
Terrible muscles and oysters. Not fresh and Sandy. Bread and fries were good
Great happy hour oysters! Good cocktails and service.
amazing food, great service and excellent environment. Would definitely come back again! chocolate dessert was good but do not ask for strawberry shortcake
Great vibe, good music. Drink menu is pretty varied and interesting. They have a good selection of beers, plus wine! I got the seafood stew...it could be a little more flavorful either by having more seafood stock and/or salt. Clams were a bit chewy. My boyfriend had the steak and fries...steak was a bit tough even though it was medium rare. Perhaps we should have ordered rare. Overall it was a decent meal. I would come here again simply for the drinks and service. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable.
Best cocktail bar in the area.
Food was fantastic.. if only the portion sizes were a bit bigger
A hidden gem in Astoria. Sometimes four happy hour they have drinks and oysters $1. The food is always great here, the service is awesome oh, and the space is just super cozy. One of my favorite places in this neighborhood to come have a cocktail little bite to eat. I've had a birthday party in here, I've been at a bar crawl in here, and I've had a company Christmas party in here all have been fantastic experiences.
This is by far my favorite restaurant in all of Astoria. An unassuming exterior leads to an elegant interior with comforting decor and cozy dim lighting. There's outdoor seating for nicer weather and coat racks for the cooler months. A great oyster selection and outstanding food and cocktails. I've taken my entire family here multiple times when they visit because this place is so good. Great date spot. Great everything spot, really
Smallest portions I've ever seen in my life, and not cheap by any means. Flavors were just okay. Disappointing.
Mar’s is a very nice American seafood restaurant in Astoria. The ambience is relaxed and looks a bit stylized and vintage. The service was friendly and efficient. And the food was all good. My main complaint is that I found a decent amount of shell in my raw oysters, but it was nothing to ruin the meal. The special trout crudo of the day was delicious, as was the pan seared trout platter I tried, which came with lentils, black eyed peas and butternut squash. Mar’s is definitely a place I’ll be frequenting in Astoria.
Good raw bar at happy hour but menu is pricey
Love this place! $2 oysters on Sundays
What a cool little place. The food is fantastic. Steak and Frites is so delicious and simple. Alex behing the bar took us on a journey with his well crafted cocktails and tales of how they came about.
Great restaurant All around. I will definitely revisit!
Only had the grilled octopus and assorted oysters. Definitely recommend the Wayne's world oysters above the others.
Wonderfull tonight ... Very unique atmosphere and delicious food. Great service .. We love Ms Nur’s hospitality...
Lovely surprise when we visited Mar's yesterday by the first time. It is located in Astoria in this unassuming neighborhood; inside reminds me of old restaurants, pretty, refined and cozy. The service is top notch, everyone is so friendly and helpful. The drinks were craftily made and you can see that they spent some time thinking about the ingredients and recipes. The oysters were MAGNIFICENT - fresh and delicious. If you only go for oysters and drinks, it is worth the trip. We asked for grilled octopus as appetizer, super flavorful and the quantity was pretty good. Our entree was the snapper with two sides, and let me tell you, it was superb. I love the experience of dining at Mar's. It is a keeper for sure!
A wonderful happy hour that I wish was even a half hour longer -- a beer, some oysters, some herby fries.. definitely a place that you will caption with "mood".
Easily my favorite restaurant in all of Astoria! The food is exceptional as are the cocktails. Dishes of notability: The Mussels, Steak and Fries, as well as the succulent oysters. Plus the Creme Brulee dessert was wonderful. As for the service and setting, I couldn't have been more pleased. Plus Mar's is a great option for date night The interior is vintage wood and tile. It almost feels like walking into an old speakeasy. In addition, the lightning is subdued and the volume of patrons is just right. No screaming over loud music/voices here. So just go! You will not be disappointed!
It's a lovely space and the staff is great! I thought the oysters were ok. $2 oysters all day Sunday. An interesting selection. Coffee is standard. The pancakes were horrible. I couldn't finish it. Asked for butter and it was still stiff from the fridge (which is not what you would expect from a restaurant like this). But I overheard others who were very happy with their food so I'd give it another chance.
Quiet spot off the beaten path in Astoria. Delicious food! Good service. Pricey, dinner for two easily over $100. Oysters are normally $3, $2 all day Sunday and $1.50 at happy hour (I think 5pm-7pm) and or server was very helpful with selection. Will definitely be back for happy hour.
Food was good but the portions were too small , we paid around 200$ including some drinks and we were hungry again after 2 hours . Staff were nice but for those small portions the place is too expensive and you have better options somewhere else in Astoria .
My wife and I love this place, we go from time to time to get some oysters. Best place in the area for oysters! Draft selection is great as well!
Great friendly spot with excellent food. That said, we had to take a star off due to the sticker shock of the bill.If a special (pan seared duck - we're not talking lobster here) costs twice what everything else on the menu does, it might be a good idea to let your customers know.
This is where the best bartenders in Queens work! Don't take my word for it - tell them what flavors you're into and they always come up with something special that exceeds your expectations.
One of those places you don’t want to give 5 stars because you don’t want everyone to find out about it. By far the best place for a nice dinner or cocktail. Food and service is impeccable. Stands out among many other great places in the hood.
Went to eat and only had 1 item in the menu
Amazing date spot. Pricey but worth it.
Friday night with one service one waitress is tuff. However they pulled it off. Good food & great drinks.
